Junior Rangers

Noah is the programer for the West Side camp. Yes, that is programer with one m...who knows how that got started, but it did. Anyway. For those of you who don't know, Barakel has two "sides of the lake" West side is the original, and the side for the elementary aged campers during the summer. East side is used for junior high and high school. So, all that to say, Noah works with the junior campers during the summer.

Part of the job of West Side programer is to create a theme for the summer. Last year it was the Olympics, because, well, it was an Olympic year. This summer is Exploration Wilderness. Noah has been working all spring on the activities, knot tying, shelter building, orienteering, the whole nine yards.

My part in all this is to create an Explorer's Guide, a sort of workbook with all kinds of fun nature activities. It basically creating 5 elementary science lesson that a kid can do on their own. If they complete 3 of the 5 activities during their week at camp, they will become an Official Junior Ranger. I know, you are impressed huh? You want your own Explorer's Guide.

And you are going to want it even more when you see what you will walk away with for participating. You will receive a spiffy brown lanyard with Explorer Cards for each activity you completed. And if you reach the level of Junior Ranger, you get a super duper spiffy Explorer Card that says, Official Junior Ranger to attach to your lanyard. See, I told you.

What's that? You want me to send you an Explorer's Guide in the mail? Well, I'll have to ask the programer about that one. I'll let you know as soon as I can.
