Sacrifice
I have received full payment and have more than enough.
I am amply supplied, now that I have received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent.
They are a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God. Philippians 4:18
Paul was a missionary who received support from churches and individuals. He traveled sharing the gospel, teaching and disciplining. In Philippians we read that he was amply supplied from the gifts of the church at Philippi.
But these gifts were not out of the abundance or surplus of the Philippians, no, they were a sacrifice. A sacrifice costs you. It can hurt at times, but it should be out of love. Here Paul says their gifts were a fragrant offering, acceptable and pleasing to God.
God has been prompting me to give sacrificially, causing me to choose to trust in Him for His provision while I give more than I “think” I can. I (Noah) tend to have a stingy heart, and God is teaching me, through giving, how to really sacrificially give. Has God been moving in your heart to give in a way that will be a sacrifice to you?
We, like Paul, are missionaries. God has set it up to have our support come through His people. Liz and I are asking you to seek the Lord to see if He wants to have you give sacrificially, above and beyond what you think you can give, and to see God provide. For some of you it will be to give to God through us as we prepare to serve Him in Honduras. For others, it will be to your church, another missionary or ministry. Just follow the Lord’s leading.
Please shoot us an email if God is working in your life in this way. We would love to hear your story! We could use the encouragement this month as we look to God for His provision for language school in April. Also check out our blog nlkamper.blogspot.com to hear about our day to day lives and how to be involved in our ministry. Noah would love to give you a call to talk more about Honduras if you are interested.
Finally, thank you for all of you who already sacrificially give to us! We are so grateful for your support of God’s calling on our lives; we love you and are amazed at what you are doing. We know your gifts “…are a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God. And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:18-19 (emphasis mine)
