History Lesson, Part I

Ok, you are going to have to bear with me today...I haven't taught history in 2 years and am itching too...especially today. With that said, you will probably see multiple posts, thoughts and primary source quotes today...and on top of that, I am a verbal processor (go figure).

You can rest assured that the TV will be on all day at our house...Forrest will be allowed to watch it today, so that I can tell him later, "Yep, you watched President Obama talk the oath of office."

I am sitting here with my coffee, all the boys are still asleep (Noah is home today), and something hit me. They were showing what the National mall looks like today,

(courtesy of msnbc.com)
They are estimating something like 2 million people are going to be there today. The Metro opened early to get everyone into the city.

Anyway, this is what the mall looked like in 1963 when Dr. King gave his "I have a Dream"Speech 100 years after President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, freeing the slaves.

  2. i too sat on my butt and relished every moment of the inauguration coverage. you're right, regardless of what you believe about president obama's politics, history was made today, and honored to share in that. it was incredible. at one time they interviewed a little boy who was 10and asked what it meant to him.. and he said... "it means that now when people see black men on tv they won't think of them as criminals or thieves, but as presidents, lawyers, and doctors".. incredible....

  3. thanks for sharing the photos. i wish i could have watched the inauguration without the reporters whining in my ears. i'm tired of the rhetoric! (regardless of its target) just let me watch history take place without telling me how stylish michelle is or whether or not obama will have as much impact on the african american community as 50 cent. oh please.
