Check the screws too... a lack of oiling the right parts and/or screws that are too tight or too loose can cause wretched noises! :) I know all about screeching sewing machines! I had my great-gmas for years and had to "fix" it everytime I wanted to use it... I finally got a new one a few years ago for Christmas!
